The 6th European Family Business Summit

The 6th European Family Business Summit took place from the 19th to the 20th of November in Madrid. Over 200 family business entrepreneurs from 20 European countries attended the event to discuss the sustainability challenge and the role of family business in this context.

In the first keynote of the day, Manuel Valls, underlined the fact that Europe, as an idea, represents values, and principles of peace, solidarity, social justice, single market, small and large companies, prosperity, protection. He made an impassioned speech on how family businesses can continue to promote these values through its continued commitment to the communities and regions of Europe. 

EFB elects its New Chairman

On the 19th of November, the prominent German entrepreneur Udo J. Vetter took over the presidency of EFB. The handover happened during the 6th EFB Summit in Madrid.

Mr Vetter has taken over from Alfonso Libano whose successful presidency ended according to the statutes. Udo J. Vetter, who is also vice-president of the German business association DIE FAMILIENUNTERERNEHMER, was unanimously elected to the role for the next three years. 

New Commission President underlines importance of family businesses

On the 27th of November, in front of the European Parliament, on the occasion of the presentation of the new College of Commissioners and their programmes, the New Commission President, Ursula Von der Leyen, highlighted the importance of family businesses.   

Message from the Chairman

On the 19th of November, I was honoured to be elected as the new president of EFB. I recognise that as a community and as a continent, we will be facing important challenges in the coming years. 

Throughout my mandate, as my predecessor did, I will endeavour to ensure that the voice of family business is heard in Brussels, Strasbourg and beyond. I will seek to engage openly and constructively with the European Institutions, to strengthen our ability to create the best conditions for our businesses, employees, families and our society.  

SUFABU: First kick-off meeting in Prague

SUFABU is an EU funded Erasmus+ project that responds to the needs of European family businesses that currently face a task of intergenerational exchange. The project aims to create a flexible training system focused on the succession process in family businesses and, at the same time, to raise awareness of the obstacles that family entrepreneurs experience on their way.

European Family Business Barometer: 8th Edition

Our annual barometer, in collaboration KPMG Enterprise, shows Europe's family businesses remain positive about the future at a time of rising economic and geopolitical uncertainties.

EU SPRING Project: Succession Planning and Regeneration in Family Businesses for New Growth through an innovative training programme

On the 7th and 8th October, EFB took part in the second coordination meeting for the Spring project.
